About the walk
Holkham beach walk is part of the Norfolk Coastal Path. It takes you through the pinewoods and the sand dunes out onto the vast beach which is just stunning. You can also extend the walk and wander up to the famous beach huts on Wells Beach. The lead restrictions are operated from April through to August. This is because the beach is part of a National nature reserve and dogs are required to be on leads for parts of the walk to protect the nesting birds.
Facilities Available
There are plenty of facilities at various points on this walk. If you park at Holkham, there is the Victoria Inn which is a great pub or you can walk up to Holkham Hall which a historic stately home. Halfway through the walk there is ‘the lookout’ which is a cafe with toilets and water for your pups. Wells beach hut which is closer to Wells Beach is a great pit stop. They have toilets and a cafe, the cafe even does doggy ice cream. They also have a Joules outlet store.
Accessibility
There’s a wooden track that leads to a platform that provides a great over the beach. Majority of the walk is quite bumpy terrain through the pinewoods and then obviously lots and lots of sand!
Additional Notes
Why the submitter loves this walk
We spend quite a lot of time here and each time we do this walk we feel refreshed and relaxed. It’s quite quiet, depending on the time you go, it’s great to have different terrains and different views and whether it’s walking through the pinewoods or onto the beach you’re always in for a treat. Our dog, Luna, loves running on the beach and there’s plenty to sniff at in the woods. We come to watch the sunset, which I honestly believe is one of the best in the UK, it’s simply stunning.
